Warner Bros. has hired TRON: Legacy writers Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal to pen an adaptation of the alternate-history comic Rex Mundi, Heat Vision reports. The film rights were purchased by Johnny Depp's Infinitum Nihil in 2006.
Fight Club scibe Jim Uhls had at one point been tapped to write the script for Depp to star in and produce.
Created by Arvid Nelson and Eric Johnson, the series is a murder mystery turned quest for the Holy Grail set in a 1930s Europe where the medieval power structure remains intact, the Protestant Reformation was crushed by the Catholic Church, and magic is real. Rex Mundi debuted at Image Comics in 2003 and then moved to Dark Horse in 2006. Johnson was succeeded as artist by Juan Ferreyra.
Nihil's Christi Dembrowski and Dark Horse's Mike Richardson are producing with Alan and Peter Riche.
