Since the Gem of Cyttorak gave Juggernaut his abilities, he has become one of the most powerful X-Men foes. However, there have been a few times when his incredible power has been amplified even more than usual. A great example of this can be found in X-Men #88 (by Alan Davis and Joe Casey), in which Cain Marko became the cosmic powerhouse known as the Trion Juggernaut, and it wasn't until Uncanny X-Men #369 (by Alan Davis, Terry Kavanagh and Joe Kubert) that Marko was finally able to break free of Trion's hold.

Cain Marko became Trion Juggernaut during his search for a rumored second Gem of Cyttorak. His pursuit for power brought him to a temple, where the Cult of the Chejo-Do sprung their trap, stripping Juggernaut of his power. The group distilled Juggernaut's power within a different crystal, and made a quick getaway. Eventually, the X-Men helped save Marko's life by taking the crystal back, and put a stop to the Cult's plans. But when his powers were restored, an evil interdimensional spirit from inside the crystal named Trion also transferred into Marko. Sensing vast potential, Trion possessed Juggernaut and elevated his powers to the point where he could actually break through the barriers that separate dimensions.

Trion Juggernaut's Powers Wreaked Havoc Across Dimensions

Juggernaut becomes entangled by snake-like branches from another dimension in Uncanny X-Men #369

Using his newfound ability to punch through dimensions, the Trion-controlled Juggernaut made his way towards the spirit's home dimension, where it could assert its power and control. In the process, Marko's longtime criminal partner and best friend Black Tom Cassidy was also sucked through the broken dimensional barrier. Cassidy was recovered by the dimension's native species, who asked for his help in stopping Juggernaut. Due to their prior experience with the powerful villain, Black Tom called on the X-Men for help in taking down their old foe.

While in the Danger Room, the X-Men were teleported into the other dimension, where the possessed Juggernaut sent interdimensional creatures to attack them. However, the dimension had unusual effects on the mutants and their abilities. Storm fell into a coma-like state after trying to use her powers. Nightcrawler's teleportation opened dimensional rifts and unleashed even more creatures. Professor Xavier's astral form was amplified and at one point he accidentally fused with Wolverine, trapping both their minds into one body. After finally being led to Black Tom and hearing his explanation of events, the X-Men agreed to help stop Juggernaut.

How the X-Men Eventually Defeated The Most Powerful Form of Juggernaut

Juggernaut rips the Trion entity apart, reclaiming control over his mind

By the time Wolverine, Nightcrawler and Shadowcat found Juggernaut, his powers had expanded beyond mere strength. He grew to over 100 feet tall, and each of his punches cracked the dimensional barriers. It reached a point where Juggernaut no longer even recognized the X-Men as threats. Professor X was eventually able to transfer his and Wolverine's psyches into that of his step-brother. They then discovered Marko's personality within the Juggernaut, reduced to a sniveling and sobbing weakling. With the help of the X-Men, Cain was able to reestablish his connection to the power of the Juggernaut and revert to his natural form.

He beat the presence possessing him, eventually destroying it with his bare hands. This fully freed Juggernaut of the influence of the spirit, costing him his enhanced reality-altering powers but restoring his self-control. Juggernaut was soon sent back to Earth where he would go through other phases of becoming under or overpowered. Despite all of those power fluctuations, he has never again reached the massive power levels that the dark side of Trion afforded him.
