Another trailer has given viewers a deeper look at Crunchyroll's upcoming reboot of the classic sci-fi western anime Trigun.

Like the previous trailers, the new one teases that Trigun Stampede's story will overflow with spectacle and action; however, this trailer suggests that the reboot will may a much darker, more horrifying tone than the original series. It also provides insight into the antagonists' motivations and introduces several new characters as well as their voice actors. Kouki Uchiyama (Fate/Grand Order The Movie Divine Realm of the Round Table: Camelot) will voice Legato Bluesummers alongside TARAKO (Hunter x Hunter) as Zazie the Beast and Ryusei Nakao (One Piece Film: Strong World) as William Conrad.

The three join a cast that already features several prominent and experienced voice actors. Most notably, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka (Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba) and Junya Ikeda (Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna) have already been confirmed as Vash the Stampede and Million Knives, respectively. Other members of the cast include Sakura Andou (Naruto Shippūden) as Meryl Strife, Kenji Matsuda (Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS) as Robert de Niro and Yoshimasa Hosoya (My Hero Academia) as Nicholas D. Wolfwood.

A Peek Into Vash's Past

Tokuma Shoten’s Monthly Shōnen Captain serialized Yasuhiro Nightow’s original Trigun manga from April 1995 to January 1997. Its sequel series Trigun Maximum appeared in Shōnen Gahosha's Young King OURs from October 1997 until March 2007. The story follows Vash the Stampede, a notorious gunman with a massive bounty on his head; while the rumors describe him as a merciless villain, he is actually a pacifist and quite a goofball. Though, as the new trailer suggests, his past is quite harrowing.

The original Trigun anime by Madhouse (Death Note) premiered in 1998. Written by Yōsuke Kuroda (Birdie Wing: Golf Girls' Story) and directed by Satoshi Nishimura (Dragon Ball Z: Dead Zone), the sci-fi classic featured a total of 26 episodes and inspired a tie-in movie, Badlands Rumble. While the original series garnered both popularity and critical acclaim, it appears a mostly new production team will bring the sequel to life. Orange, the studio behind BEASTARS and Black Bullet, is animating Trigun Stampede with Kenji Mutou (Garo the Animation) serving as director and Kouji Tajima (GANTZ:0) designing the characters.

Trigun Stampede will debut during the winter 2023 anime season. For those who want to check out the adventures of Vash the Stampede beforehand, Nightow's manga is distributed in English by Dark Horse and Madhouse's anime adaptation is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
