Trent Reznor is, of course, Nine Inch Nails. If you grew up during a certain time, he’s always going to be that. He’s also a recent Academy Award winner for the work he did with Atticus Ross on the soundtrack to The Social Network. The latter accomplishment gives Reznor a lot of newfound street cred — impressive for a guy who is already pretty much at the top of his game — which means that doors start to open for things like his gestating HBO miniseries, based on the 2007 concept album Year Zero.
The particular door that’s opened today will be key in finally making the miniseries a reality: Fight Club screenplay writer Jim Uhls has been brought in to write the script, The Hollywood Reporter reveals. HBO will co-produce with BBC Worldwide Productions. There’s no start date yet, but with Uhls now busy writing something, it’s only a matter of time. The concept album, which criticized the then-in-office Bush administration, features a dystopic sci-fi tale set in the year 2022.
