actor Michiel Huisman will star opposite Laura Ramsey in the NBC pilot The Sixth Gun, a supernatural Western based on the Oni Press comic by Cullen Bunn and Brian Hurtt, Deadline reports. The network ordered the Carlton Cuse-produced project in January.

Set in the American West in the aftermath of the Civil War, the comic centers around six pistols of otherworldly power. The most dangerous of the weapons, the Sixth Gun of the title, vanishes, only to resurface in the hands of an innocent girl (Ramsey’s Becky Montcrief), reawakening dark forces. Huisman will play Drake Sinclair, a mysterious gunslinger and treasure hunter with mixed allegiances who allies himself with Becky while seeking the Sixth Gun for himself.

The two stars are joined in the pilot by W. Earl Brown (Deadwood) as Oliander Hume, the foul-mouthed undead Confederate General; Graham McTavish (The Hobbit) as Silas Hedgepeth, the General’s loyal lieutenant; and Aldis Hodge (Leverage) as Mr. Mercer, a detective hired to find the missing guns.

The Sixth Gun pilot will be directed by Jeffrey Reiner (Wonder Woman, Friday Night Lights) from a script by Ryan Condal. Eric Gitter and Andy Borne of Closed on Mondays, the sister company of Oni Press, are executive producing.
