The Transformers franchise has had massive hits across multiple forms of media. Its biggest successes are typically found on television shows and in blockbuster movies. Since 2007, there have been six live-action films released from the franchise. However, none have managed to capture the essence of the Transformers quite like 2018's Bumblebee.

Bumblebee follows the adventures of the titular Autobot Bumblebee after crash landing on earth. Though he loses his memories for most of the film, his human friend Charlie Watson (played by Hailee Steinfeld) helps him rediscover who he is. The two form a strong bond that feels very genuine and leads to many emotional moments throughout the film. That being said, no emotional moment can even compare to the scene where the two are forced to say goodbye.

Sad moments in Transformers don't happen often, but when they do, they can be truly heartbreaking. When the film concludes, Charlie and Bumblebee are overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge. Bumblebee wants Charlie to join him and the other Autobots for more adventures, but Charlies says no. This is a significant change from the norm as it's usually the humans who want to join their alien friend on more adventures.

During the film, Charlie has trouble coping with the loss of her father, and no one seems to listen. Bumblebee offers an ear and shoulder to cry on, helping her regain her purpose. Together, the two are able to eventually find themselves. Bumblebee thanks Charlie for giving him a voice through the radio, and Charlie returns his kindness by thanking him for helping her be herself again. They both are very sad but know that things are happening that are bigger than them. Bumblebee decides to leave on a high note by changing into his now-iconic Camaro disguise and playing "Don't You Forget About Me" while driving alongside Optimus Prime.

In many ways, this ending shows the growth of these two characters and their responsibilities to their friends and companions. It would have been nice to see Charlie join Bumblebee and the Autobots, but she had to make the tough choice to let her friend go so that they can both grow into who they are meant to be. Bumblebee is young and may not want that, but to keep her safe, he knows he must leave. Dark forces are coming to Earth and Bumblebee knows he has a job to do.

Bumblebee's ending mirrors a lesson that all people have to learn. Everyone has to decide between what they want and what needs to happen. Rarely are these two things the same, but they do serve as perfect life lessons. Charlie took her first step into adulthood by telling Bee he needs to be with his people, and Bumblebee learned that even though he has a job to do, he doesn't have to forget those he loves.

The ending showed that they chose to separate because they understand the importance of responsibility. Its emotional conclusion resonates with viewers of any age and shows the positive impact the two characters had on each other. Charlie may have even given Bumblebee his most defining trait: his faith in humanity. Fans are craving a sequel and hope that Charlie and Bumblebee may meet again. However, if they don't meet, that doesn't mean they will forget how they helped each other grow and learn to be happy and optimistic.
