After teasing a decidedly different Megatron just last week, director Michael Bay has unveiled the first look at the upgraded Bumblebee from "Transformers: The Last Knight."

In his car form, at least. Alas, it's not a return to the original Volkswagen Beetle, but rather a custom-built 2016 Chevrolet Camaro.

The beloved Autobot made his live-action debut in 2007's "Transformers" as a battered 1977 Camaro, and has been updated in each of his subsequent film appearances. However, this custom model is Bumblebee's sleekest look to date; whether that will extend to his robot form remains to be seen.

A mainstay of the "Transformers" multimedia franchise, Bumblebee will move from supporting player to main character in 2018 with a solo film.

Before that, however, fans will see him in "Transformers: The Last Knight," starring Mark Wahlberg, Isabela Moner, Jerrod Carmichael, Josh Duhamel and Anthony Hopkins. The film opens June 23, 2017.
