Paramount Pictures confirmed that the upcoming film Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will be the first of a new trilogy.Revealed on Twitter, the studio promised that the seventh mainline Transformers movie will hit theaters in 2023 and will be the first installment of a new series. No details on the eighth and ninth films were provided but they will likely continue on from the events of Rise of the Beasts. Given that the upcoming film is set between the events of the soft-reboot Bumblebee and Michael Bay's explosive movies, it's likely that the new trilogy will breach the gap in the live-action Transformers timeline.Related: Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Unveils a Merged Autobot and Maximal Symbol

In the same tweet, Paramount also revealed that a CG animated Transformers will hit theaters in 2024. Nothing else about the production is known but more details will likely be revealed in the coming years.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will reportedly take several cues from 90s action movies to bring the beloved Beast Wars story to life. Set in the 1990s, the latest chapter in the saga of the intergalactic robots will see a pair of unsuspecting archeologists attempt to survive a rapidly escalating war. While audiences can expect the usual conflict between the Autobots and the Decepticons, Rise of the Beasts will also introduce three new factions: the Maximals, the Predacons and the Terrorcons.

Despite these new groups, fans can still look forward to the return of several beloved characters. Fresh out of his own solo film, Bumblebee will spring back into action, sporting a new design of a yellow dune buggy. Optimus Prime will also feature in the movie, although his appearance has been remodeled to mimic his G1 look. While this iconic duo may be enough for fans, enthusiasts of the Robots in Disguise can also anticipate appearances from Arcee, Mirage, Nightbird, Airazor, Rhinox and Optimus Primal. The sinister Decepticon Scourge will also serve as the movie's main antagonist.

Directed by Steven Caple Jr., Transformers: Rise of the Beasts stars Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback. The movie will hit theaters on June 9, 2023.
