A new symbol has been revealed for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, teasing an updated look for the Maximals in the movie.

Director Steven Caple Jr. shared an image to his Instagram Stories with the caption "We're coming." The image appears to be a hybrid of the traditional Autobot symbol with the Maximal logo from Beast Wars media. Though no further context was provided, it seems that the seventh Transformers film may alter the classic Maximal logo to incorporate the factions Autobot lineage.

Back in June, Paramount and Hasbro announced that the next Transformers movie, arriving summer 2022, will see the live-action debut of the Maximals. Three Maximals were confirmed for Rise of the Beasts, Optimus Primal, Rhinox, and Airazor. It's not yet clear how the characters will be integrated into the story, but it will likely deviate considerably from the Beast Wars TV series that introduced the Maximals and Predacons to the Transformers lore.

The Maximals are the descendants of the Autobots. On the show, the group is sent back to Stone Age Earth after a confrontation with the Predacons, the descendants of the Decepticons. The story involved a deepening of the Transformers lore, tying in real-world elements along with Transformers history.

The new logo seems to indicate the connection between the Autobots and Maximals will be made more explicit, something that was explored in the recent final part of the Transformers: War for Cybertron TrilogyKingdom, which coincided with Beast Wars's 25th anniversary. Fittingly, the new movie will be set in 1994, following the events of Bumblebee, and will take cues from '90s action movies like Terminator 2.

"As a fan and watching all the Transformers films, and then stepping into Bumblebee, I love the way he went back into '87," Caple Jr. said in July. "Again, it adds again to the nostalgia and something that people remember or connect to. So I was curious, when I met Lorenzo [di Bonaventura] and the team, I was like, where are we picking this thing up from? He was like 1994, and I was just like, that’s a great era. You know what I mean? It has a lot of texture.

Directed by Steven Caple Jr., Transformers: Rise of the Beasts stars Anthony Ramos, Dominique Fishback, Peter Cullen and Ron Perlman. The film is set for a June 2022 release.
