The Wreckers return to comics and have their work cut out for them in their latest death-defying series, Transformers: Wreckers -- Tread and Circuits.

CBR has an exclusive preview of Issue #1 of the four-issue series. Written by IDW Publishing editor David Mariotte (Hanazuki: Full of Treasures, Transformers vs. The Terminator) and penciled by Jack Lawrence (My Little Pony/TransformersSonic the Hedgehog), the first issue features a foreboding message from the Mayhem Attack Squad, the Deception analogue to the Wreckers. The tentacled Deception Octopunch can be seen proselytizing about the decadent nature of the planet Velocitron, where inhabitants race to elect leaders and governments. This system has long been flawed, Octopunch insists, and the Speedia 500 race to decide the planet's ruler must be dismantled. To prove Mayhem's point, Octopunch mercilessly mutilates Electrons -- a racer from the last Speedia 500 competition -- over a live broadcast, promising more violence in the near future.

Transformers; Wreckers -- Tread & Circuits details the efforts of the Wreckers as they race to save the Speedia 500. Originating in the Marvel UK Transformers comic of the '80s, the Wreckers are an elite squad of daring Autobots in Cybertron's colonies who value fearless tactics and frequently take on dangerous black ops missions. Renowned for an ever-shifting membership encompassing Autobats like Rotorstorm, Pyro and their former leader Impactor, the Wreckers made their last comic appearance in the 2018 IDW one-shot Transformers: Requiem of the Wreckers.

"The Wreckers are an idea that comes from the comics -- a team of Autobots willing to do what other Autobots wouldn’t, and look cool as heck while doing it," Mariotte said in July when the series was announced. "Every iteration has been a bit different, and with Jack and [colorist] Candice [Han] on art, this one’s going to be a gorgeous new take on who the Wreckers are and how they do what they do best."

Lawrence, who collected the very first appearance of the Wreckers in 1986, said that it was "awesome to actually contribute to their legend," adding, "The Wreckers have always felt like a pulp adventure team, and I’m excited to bring some of that feeling to these pages."

Transformers: Wreckers -- Tread & Circuits #1, by Mariotte and Lawrence with colors by Candice Han and variant covers by Anna Malkova and Nick Roche, hits comic book shops this October.
