Transformers and G.I. Joe movie producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura said that a crossover between the two Hasbro-owned franchises will happen someday.

While speaking to Uproxx, di Bonaventura revealed why the two properties have never had a team-up on the silver screen. "You know, the truth of the matter is, [Paramount] has always been against that," di Bonaventura said. "Every regime that’s been at Paramount is against it because it’s taking two franchises and making them one, but I think it’s inevitable."

This is not the first time that a possible crossover movie between Transformers and G.I. Joe has been brought up. xXx: The Return of Xander Cage director D.J. Caruso revealed back in 2017 that he had pitched the idea for the planned third G.I. Joe movie, explaining that Paramount was "not ready to do [G.I. Joe meets Transformers] yet."

"That’s exactly what they should do but they’re not ready to do that because in fact the script that I was developing, the two worlds sort of collided at the end and when they read it they were like, 'We’re not ready to do this yet.'… They will eventually collide those two worlds and it’s probably when [Michael Bay] decides he’s done with Transformers," Caruso added.

The next cinematic outing for the G.I. Joe franchise is Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins, which explores the origin of the titular ninja. The film arrives in theaters July 23. The '90s-set Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, meanwhile, is in the early stages of production.
