Transformers 4 Will Have Four-Year Time Jump, Michael Bay Teases

The plot of Transformers 4 may not remain a big mystery for much longer. Now that Michael Bay has wrapped Pain & Gain, it seems like he is shifting his focus to his fourth and final installment in the Transformers series. The director has opened up about the movie in a new interview and teased there will be a time jump between the end of Transformers: Dark of the Moon and the beginning of the new installment.

“The movie is going to continue four years on from the attack on Chicago, which was in the last movie,” Bay told TMZ. “So it’s going still to have the same lineage but going in a full, new, different direction and it actually feels really natural how it is going in that direction.”

Although little is known about the plot of Transformers 4 beyond the above details, Bay’s comments do align themselves with what he’s said previously. The new film won’t be a reboot, but it will be very separate from the prior three Transformers movies. Transformers 4 will focus on different characters including new Autobots and Decepticons, and will potentially take place beyond Earth. Add that to the fact that Mark Wahlberg has been cast as the lead, and we’re looking at a very different Transformers movie than we’re used to seeing.

Transformers 4 is due in theaters on June 27, 2014.
