One week into 2022 and the new year is already looking bright, with everything from an action-packed anime lineup to the first major television premieres and blockbuster movies right around the corner. Attack on Titan

Attack on Titan is returning to conclude its fourth and final season, adapting Hajime Isayama's bestselling manga series that saw humanity defend themselves from ravenous giants that repeatedly attacked steampunk kingdoms in a medieval fantasy world. At the core of the anime series is lifelong friends Eren Jaeger, Mikasa Ackerman and Armin Arlert, with the latest trailer featuring the trio recalling their friendship before now standing against each other as the season resumes.

Directed by Jun Shishido and Yuichiro Hayashi, Attack on Titan Season 4 returns for its final stretch of episodes on Jan. 10 and is available to stream on Crunchyroll and Funimation.

The Batman

One of the most eagerly anticipated movies of the whole year is one of the earliest to make its debut, with The Batman poised to open in theaters this March. As marketing for the superhero movie kicks into high gear, the latest promo centers on the burgeoning romantic tension between Batman and Catwoman as the two shadowy figures find themselves growing closer together while facing the murderous menace of the Riddler.

Produced, directed and co-written by Matt Reeves, The Batman opens in theaters on March 4.

The Irregular at Magic High School

The popular anime adaptation of Tsutomo Satō's The Irregular at Magic High School is returning for its third season, continuing to blend fantasy and science fiction with coming-of-age fun. Taking place in a world where the course of technology has been shaped by the presence of magic, two siblings enroll in high school while trying to keep the truth about their family background a secret.

Directed by Manabu Ono, The Irregular at Magic High School Season 3 does not currently have a release date. The first two seasons are available to stream on Funimation and Hulu.

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?

The anime adaptation of Fujino Ōmori and Suzuhito Yasuda's popular light novel series Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? is returning for its fourth season this year, with a new trailer focusing on the team-up between the goddess Hestia and teenage adventurer Bell Cranel. The two enter a massive labyrinth in search of a legendary treasure, with Bell oblivious to Hestia's obvious affection towards him.

Directed by Hideki Tachibana, Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Season 4 premieres sometime in 2022 in Japan. The first three seasons are currently available to stream on Hulu and Crunchyroll.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0

Jujutsu Kaisen 0, the prequel film to the popular anime adaptation of Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen manga series, is out in Japan, with a new trailer providing overseas audiences with their best look yet at the movie. The trailer has protagonist Yuta Okkotsu thank his curse Rika Orimoto for all that she has done for him as flashbacks reveal the couple's ill-fated love affair before Rika's monstrous transformation.

Directed by Sunghoo Park, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is out in Japan, with plans for an international release currently unannounced.

MF Ghost

MF Ghost, Shuichi Shigeno's follow-up to his acclaimed manga series Initial D, is getting its own anime adaptation next year. An announcement trailer showcases a fresh round of high-octane street racing, as British-Japanese racer, Kanata Livington, takes on a group of rivals in dangerous mountain-drifting racing. The trailer has Kanata behind the wheel of a Toyota 86, with his opponents driving a fleet of European sports cars as they navigate the tight, Japanese streets.

MF Ghost will premiere in 2023, with no North American release information currently announced.

Ozark

Netflix's widely acclaimed crime drama Ozark is dividing its fourth and final season into two parts, with the first half set to premiere this January. The trailer for Season 4 Part 1 has the Byrde family tacitly threatening a local drug dealer, Darlene Snell, after learning she plans to restart her illicit business, potentially upsetting the Navarro crime cartel's activities in the small Missouri town. And even though Marty Byrde is taking point on behalf of the Navarros, he is not immune from incurring their wrath once again.

Created by Bill Dubuque and Mark Williams, Ozark Season 4 premieres Jan. 21 on Netflix.

Peacemaker

After making his memorable big-screen debut in The Suicide Squad, the team's violent pacifist Peacemaker is set to take center stage in his own spinoff television series this month. A new trailer for the series has Peacemaker speaking to a class of elementary school students, embellishing his exploits and connections to the rest of the DCEU's greatest heroes before embarking on a chaotic team-up with the gun-toting antihero Vigilante.

Developed for television by James Gunn, Peacemaker premieres Jan. 13 on HBO Max.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Nintendo's first big game of 2022 is coming with Pokémon Legends: Arceus, providing a deeper look at the franchise's fan-favorite Sinnoh Region at a time when it was known as the Hisui Region, and humans and Pokémon hadn't quite developed the deep coexistence seen in most titles in the popular franchise. In this 3D adventure on the Nintendo Switch, players investigate strange creatures surfacing around the region to create the region's first Pokédex.

Developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, Pokémon Legends: Arceus will be released on Jan. 28 for the Nintendo Switch.

Tales of Luminaria

The Fateful Crossroad, the anime adaptation of Bandai Namco Entertainment's new mobile game, Tales of Luminaria, premieres this month, with Bandai Namco providing a sneak peek at the series' fantasy world. Showcasing the English-language dub of the series, the trailer focuses on its three protagonists as the old friends reunite on a quest that could reshape their world forever.

Directed by Shiori and Midori Kato, Tales of Luminaria: The Fateful Crossroad premieres on Jan. 21 and will be available to stream through Funimation.

Ultraman

The CG Ultraman anime series is returning for its second season this April, with a fiery trailer showcasing six Ultramen joining forces to take on a new wave of gigantic extraterrestrial monsters invading Earth. Adapting the current manga series by Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi, the series follows Shinjiro Hayata, the son of the original Ultraman, inheriting his family's destiny as the planet's greatest protector.

Directed by Kenji Kamiyama and Shinji Aramaki, Ultraman Season 2 premieres April 14 on Netflix.
