One industry that has done enormously well during the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has been the video game industry. Games have kept gamers around the world entertained and comforted while they self-isolate at home. Adventure Time: Distant Lands

The latest trailer for the Adventure Time revival miniseries on HBO Max, Adventure Time: Distant Lands, takes the concept of a space western literally. The first of the four planned episodes focus on Jake and Finn's sentient computer friend BMO, with the electronic device becoming a sheriff as the fate of the entire universe hangs in the balance.

Created by Pendleton Ward, Adventure Time: Distant Lands will air exclusively on HBO Max. A release date has yet to be announced.

The Ascent

Among the planned launch titles for the Xbox Series X is The Ascent, a cyberpunk action game that can be played solo or cooperatively online. Set in a dystopian future ruled by mega-corporations, the game has players navigate the harsh city streets when the world's largest mega-corporation collapses, with rival contenders battling for supremacy to subjugate the masses.

Developed by Neon Giant, The Ascent will be released for Xbox Series X, Xbox One and PC this holiday season.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla

After previously unveiling its announcement trailer, Ubisoft has provided the first gameplay trailer for Assassin's Creed Valhalla, which brings the popular video game franchise to Scandinavia during the Age of Vikings. While not much combat gameplay is seen, the in-game environments are gorgeously rendered with the Xbox Series X's next-gen hardware.

Batwoman

Teased since the start of the series, Tommy Eliot will officially become the masked supervillain Hush in the next episode of Batwoman. As Alice develops a new plan to destroy Gotham City's protector once and for all, Eliot resurfaces in a comic book-accurate costume to menace Kate Kane after escaping from Arkham Asylum.

Created by Caroline Dries and developed by Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, Batwoman stars Ruby Rose, Rachel Skarsten, Meagan Tandy, Camrus Johnson, Dougray Scott, Elizabeth Anweis and Nicole Kang. The series airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.

Betaal

The zombie apocalypse comes to India in the latest Netflix original series Betaal, co-produced by Blumhouse Television. The upcoming horror series has authorities breach a tunnel in a mountain by a remote village to construct a new highway only to discover they have unleashed ravenous zombies that had been contained within for centuries.

Directed by Patrick Graham and Nikhil Mahajan, Betaal stars Viineet Kumar Singh, Jitendra Joshi, Aahana Kumra and Suchitra Pilla. The series arrives on Netflix on May 24.

Bright Memory Infinite

The popular Chinese first-person shooter Bright Memory is being developed for next-gen consoles in Bright Memory Infinite. Collecting and remastering the original game's episodic installments, a gameplay trailer shows players taking on monsters with an impressive array of weapons, melee attacks, and telekinetic abilities in the moody, atmospheric world of the game.

Developed by FYQD Personal Studio, Bright Memory Infinite will be released for Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

Call of the Sea

In addition to action and horror titles, one of the Xbox Series X launch games, Call of the Sea, is from the puzzle-solving genre. Set in the 1930s, a woman sets out into uncharted portions of the Pacific Ocean to locate her missing husband, discovering mysterious ruins on a remote island as she continues her desperate search.

Developed by Out of the Blue and Raw Fury, Call of the Sea will be released for Xbox Series X.

Chorus

Among the first wave of titles for the Xbox Series X is Chorus, a starship-based science-fiction adventure in which a woman teams up with a sentient spaceship to delve into the visually stunning far reaches of the cosmos and take revenge on a religious organization from her past. The next-gen version has been revealed in an announcement trailer showing jaw-dropping environments and moody interiors as one woman's vengeance takes on an interstellar scope.

Developed by Deep Silver, Chorus is expected to be released in 2021 for Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PC, and Google Stadia.

DiRT 5

The popular off-road racing video game franchise DiRT returns for its next main installment on next-gen consoles this year with DiRT 5. The announcement trailer for the game showcases new, global environments and dynamic weather conditions as a fresh rivalry between its racers forms between high-octane vehicular mayhem.

Developed by Codemasters, DiRT 5 is expected to be released this October for Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PC, and Google Stadia.

Dragon Ball FighterZ

The third season of DLC for the popular fighting game Dragon Ball FighterZ continues with the eagerly anticipated release of Ultra Instinct Goku to the playable roster this month. Introduced in the anime series Dragon Ball Super, the divine transformation is Goku's most powerful combat form yet, with a gameplay trailer showcasing Goku unleashing his new abilities on Universe 11's champion Jiren.

Dragon Ball FighterZ is developed by Arc System Works and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. The game is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Ultra Instinct Goku will be available on May 22.

The Flash

Next week brings the Season 6 finale for The Flash, following Barry Allen's discovery that his wife, Iris, has been trapped in a pocket mirror dimension by the new Mirror Master for some time. A promo for the season finale has Barry realize he must act quickly to save the MirrorVerse from taking a grave toll on Iris' mind as her time in the alternate dimension begins to visibly affect her.

Airing Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, The Flash stars Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Carlos Valdes, Danielle Panabaker, Tom Cavanagh, Jesse L. Martin, Danielle Nicolet, and Hartley Sawyer.

The Last of Us Part II

One of the most universally acclaimed PlayStation-exclusive games was The Last of Us, a post-apocalyptic survival horror title in which a man named Joel navigated a monster-filled landscape with his surrogate daughter Ellie. The first story trailer for the upcoming sequel shows Ellie on the warpath, with players controlling both Joel and Ellie as they continue to struggle to survive in the ruins of the old world.

Developed by Naughty Dog, The Last of Us Part II will be released for PlayStation 4 on June 19.

The Medium

The upcoming psychological horror video game The Medium has shared its first trailer where a woman investigates an abandoned motel after being haunted by visions of a child's murder. The eponymous player character is connected to both the real world and spirit world, and the announcement trailer showcases haunting, darkened settings as well as surreal, nightmarish glimpses at the world beyond as a horrific murder is explored.

Developed by Bloober Team, The Medium will be released this holiday season for Xbox Series X and PC.

Mortal Kombat 11

NetherRealm Studios has unveiled a massive new update to Mortal Kombat 11, titled Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath, which adds new story content, playable characters, stages, and more to the popular fighting game. A new story mode DLC campaign taking place after the events of the main game sees new antagonists confront Raiden and Liu Kang as they attempt to rebuild the timeline. Meanwhile, RoboCop has been confirmed as the latest guest fighter for the game, with the film's original star Peter Weller reprising his fan-favorite role.

Developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Mortal Kombat 11 is available now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Microsoft Windows and Google Stadia. Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath goes on sale digitally May 26.

The 100

The seventh and final season of The 100 premieres this month, bringing the popular post-apocalyptic series to an end. The CW has released the first trailer for the upcoming season, which sees the characters mourn their losses from Season 6 as rival factions begin to form between the last remnants of humanity, causing renewed tensions that may put the future of the species in doubt.

Bandai Namco's latest original video game title Scarlet Nexus blends cyberpunk with post-apocalyptic science fiction for an engrossing new experience. The game's announcement trailer showcases a young man possessing a mighty sword and psychokinetic abilities battling plant-based monsters in the ruins of a major city before teaming with a squad of fellow psionic soldiers.

Developed by Bandai Namco, Scarlet Nexus will be released for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC. No release date has been announced at this time.

Scorn

The nightmarish first-person horror shooter Scorn has dropped its appropriately creepy announcement trailer, highlighting its macabre, haunting environments inspired by artist H.R. Giger. The video game drops players into the action as they navigate a living, techno-organic structure while battling against monsters with the strange, organic weapons they are armed with.

Developed by Ebb Software, Scorn will be released for Xbox Series X and PC.

Second Extinction: Reclaim Earth

Dinosaurs are back with a vengeance in the upcoming cooperative first-person shooter Second Extinction: Reclaim Earth. The game has three players working together to battle prehistoric monsters around the planet, with a whole arsenal of weaponry at their disposal to blow the Jurassic menaces back 65 million years the old-fashioned way.

The Sims 4

The popular home simulator game The Sims 4, is becoming increasingly mindful of the environment in its upcoming expansion Eco Lifestyle. A trailer introduces the expansion's new neighborhood, Evergreen Harbor, where residents' health is affected by poor environmental conditions. Players must clean up the new neighborhood -- literally -- to improve the quality of life, with a wide array of eco-friendly options.

Developed by Electronic Arts, The Sims 4: Eco Lifestyle will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on June 5.

Space Force

Space Force, the latest comedy series from Greg Daniels and Steve Carell, explores the hilarious side of the intricacies of the militarization of space. The Netflix original series unveiled its debut trailer, starring Carell as a General assigned to lead the new American military branch who runs into all sorts of increasingly comedic issues, from failed rocket launches to congressional scrutiny.

Created by Greg Daniels and Steve Carell, Space Force stars Carell, John Malkovich, Ben Schwartz, Diana Silvers and Tawny Newsome. The series premieres May 29 on Netflix.

Stargirl

The premiere of Stargirl on DC Universe and The CW is just over a week away, and the latest teaser focuses on the upcoming superhero series' villains. Pat Dugan recalls how the Justice Society of America was defeated by the Injustice Society, providing his stepdaughter Courtney Whitmore with a full roll call of the evil ensemble's roster. Fortunately, Courtney seems undeterred as she forges a superhero legacy of her own.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Out since this past November, the acclaimed video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order released a massive, free update this past week, just in time for May the 4th. A gameplay trailer shows new challenge missions, character modifications, and more additional content added to the game, set in between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.

Undertaker: The Last Ride

One of the most iconic WWE Superstars still getting into the ring is the Undertaker, the undead alter ego of professional wrestler Mark Calaway. Calaway's recent years in the ring and their toll on his body after thirty years are explored in the documentary miniseries Undertaker: The Last Ride, as Calaway contemplates his legacy and how much longer he has before he retires for good.

Undertaker: The Last Ride premieres Sunday, May 10 on WWE Network.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2

The popular action-horror franchise Vampire: The Masquerade is coming to next-gen home consoles this year with Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2. A trailer for the game showcases the player character being transformed into a vampire in Seattle as the Pacific Northwestern city descends into violence and intrigue between warring factions of the bloodthirsty undead.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon

While the latest Yakuza game, Yakuza: Like a Dragon had a Japan-exclusive release on Playstation 4 at the beginning of the year, the video game's worldwide release is slated for later this year as part of Microsoft's next-gen launch titles. Boasting impressive visuals powered by the new hardware, the title marks a shift in the popular franchise, with turn-based combat replacing the usual third-person action.
