The Weinstein Company has tapped Tracy Morgan (NBC's "30 Rock") to portray Redd Foxx -- the late comedian who starred on "Sanford and Son" from 1972 to 1977 and in 1989's "Harlem Nights", alongside Eddie Murphy -- in director Lee Daniels' upcoming Richard Pryor biopic.

"Mr. Foxx, I hope I do you justice!" Morgan told Variety in a statement. The "Saturday Night Live" alum continued, "It will be an honor to portray an icon."

Morgan stars opposite Mike Epps, who will portray the title character in the film, called "Richard Pryor: Is Is Something I Said?" The upcoming biopic also stars Kate Hudson as Pryor’s wife, Jennifer, Taraji P. Henson and Murphy as Pryor’s parents, Gertrude and LeRoy, along with Oprah Winfrey as Pryor’s grandmother and caregiver, Marie Carter.

Morgan's casting in the pic follows in light of the comedian's comeback after a near-fatal car accident last year. The "Cop Out" star returned to television last month to host "SNL", and continues to have his name attached to major projects -- including a new TV series at FXX.

"Richard Pryor: Is Is Something I Said?" hasn't been given a release date.
