TOYING AROUND: Star Wars Force Friday & More!

The Force might be set to awaken on December 18, but collectors got a huge dose of what's to come yesterday. That's the day Lucasfilm and Disney set to reveal a huge chunk of the "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" merchandise for the upcoming J.J. Abrams film. Hasbro, Sideshow, Hot Toys, Funko, Kotobukiya and many more got in on the action.

Even with the power of the Force hitting so strongly this week, there were plenty of other new collectibles shown off like the new Greg Capullo-inspired Flash and Batman figures from DC Collectibles, a slew of Pop Vinyls and even a new Godzilla statue from Sideshow Collectibles.

STAR WARS | Hasbro helped kick off Force Friday by doing various unboxing events all over the world that lead to some rad reveals. There's a lot to dig through, but here are the first batch of highlights. The Black Series will continue to expand with Chewbacca, Finn, Rey, Kylo Ren and Stormtrooper figures as well as a First Order Special Forces TIE Fighter, a variety of lightsabers and Titanium Series vehicles of Kylo Ren's Command Shuttle, a Landspeeder, the Millennium Falcon, Resistance X-Wing, Rey's Speeder, Salve, Star Destroyer, the TIE Fighter and the Y-Wing.

The company also debuted two new 3 3/4-inch figure lines called Build-A-Weapon and Armor Up. The former includes pieces of weaponry that can be joined together while the latter come with snap-on armor. BAW kicked off with Rey, Finn, Kylo Ren, Poe Dameron, Captain Phasma, Stormtrooper, Constable Zuvio, Darth Vader, Flametrooper, Luke, Resistance Trooper and a TIE Pilot. Boba Fett, Chewbacca, Finn, Poe, Flametrooper, Kylo Ren and the Stormtrooper became the first string of the Armor Up squad.

A variety of store exclusives also came to light like the Amazon Black Series Trooper 4-pack, Entertainment Earth's six-inch Black Series 4-pack, Kmart's Kylo Ren with snow base, the remote control BB-8 at Target, Toys "R" Us' Snowtrooper, translucent masked Darth Vader at Walgreens and a series of new 3 3/4-inch Black Series figures like Leia, Luke and more.

STAR WARS | Meanwhile, Kylo Ren and a gaggle of Stormtroopers were shown off by Hot Toys. Ren comes with a light-up version of his signature cross-shaped lightsaber, helmet and lots of robe layers to hide the character's face. Speaking of helmets, the First Order Stormtrooper will also be available as will the Hot Toys-exclusive FOS Squad Leader.

STAR WARS | Kotobukiya showed off a "Force Awakens" statue 2-pack and some delightful new kitchen implements. The ARTFX+ statues include the Stormtroopers that come with two blasters and multiple arm parts for various poses. Meanwhile, Kylo Ren's lightsabers will be translated into the wonder world of chopsticks while BB-8, Millennium Falcon and the 'Trooper will make your sandwiches much cooler.

STAR WARS | And, of course, Funko also got in on the Star Wars action with the new characters in the form of Pop Vinyls and Wacky Wobblers. Pops include Captain Phasma, Rey, Finn, Chewbacca, C-3PO, BB-8, Kylo Ren, Poe Dameron, the First Order Stormtrooper, Flametrooper and Snowtrooper while Finn, Rey, Kylo, Phasma, Chewie and the Snowtrooper will get the bobble head treatment.

STAR WARS | If you want to check out a new piece of Star Wars memorabilia not based on the upcoming movie, dig Sideshow Collectibles' Ralph McQuarrie Stormtrooper statue based on the original character designs based on George Lucas' script. Standing 18.5 inches, the piece comes with hands holding a blaster, lightsaber and shield. The Sideshow-exclusive one features a different helmet as well.

DC COLLECTIBLES | DC Collectibles responded to a variety of questions recently and also revealed a few new action figures along the way. Important pieces of information include the expansion of the Animated line to feature other DC cartoons in that style, the inclusion of the Joker wooden figure in the next Loot Crate, no immediate plans for more 3 3/4-inch figures at this time, a better look at the Static figure which will be the only Dakota toy from the company for the immediate future and the announcement of Flash and Survival Suit Batman from the Greg Capullo line to replace the long-delayed Two-Face.

MARVEL ZOMBIES | With Halloween right around the corner, we're all on the look out for interesting costumes. There's a good deal of potential to be found in that department by looking at this super-gross Gentle Giant Marvel Zombies Mysterio mini bust. From the exposed brain to the forthcoming intestines, the former master of illusion will finally look like a match for Spider-Man when the 6.5-inch piece debuts early next year.

DORBZ | We just can't get enough of cute vinyl toys and clearly, neither can Vinyl Sugar. This week, the Funko imprint revealed two new sets of Dorbz based on "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and "The Nightmare Before Christmas." The former set includes Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, Michelangelo, Bebop and Rocksteady while the former consists of Jack Skellington, Sally, Oogie Boogie and Santa Jack. Both sets hit in October.

VINYL POPS | In other vinyl toy news from Funko, the parent company unveiled the latest quartet of Pop Vinyls coming out this fall. September will see the release of Brennan Huff and Dale Doback from "Step Brothers." The next month, the Iron Giant with Car debuts and in November Godzilla roars into the Pop clan with a 6-inch super sized pop ready to trample the rest of your toys.

GOD OF WAR | With their Ultimate line of action figures, NECA has gone and created some of the premier action figures based on franchises they've covered to varying degrees in the past. December will see the release of Kratos, the star of the "God of War" video games enter into the family. The 7-inch-tall figure comes with 30-plus points of articulation, two flaming Blades of Athena, a pair of Cestus gauntlets and two different heads making him one of the most complete versions of the character out there.

MEGO | Finally, Figures Toy Company is selling a book about a specific portion of action figure history called "Mego 8" Super-Heroes: World's Greatest Toys! Special Edition" by Benjamin Holcomb. The tome features never-before-heard behind-the-scenes stories as well as employee interviews, checklists and plenty of photographs. The book can be purchased at full price, but there are discounts if you're also buying some of FTC's Mego-inspired action figures.
