New York Comic Con has come and gone, leaving exhausted attendees, employees and cosplayers in its wake along with a deluge of information that we're still sifting through. Hasbro previewed a lot of their spring 2015 items at a party before the show started while Mattel went the digital route because they couldn't make it to the east coast. Other companies, of course, showed off a variety of pieces while the usual level of online debuts also took place. In other words, there's a whole heck of a lot of stuff to look at, so let's get right into it.
MARVEL COMICS | Hasbro kicked New York Comic Con off Thursday night with a party packed with toy reveals. With "Avengers: Age of Ultron" coming next May, they will have a full slate of toys including a Cycle Blast Quinjet vehicle and Legends Infinite Series Hulk and Captain American figures. A line of regular 3.75-inch Infinite Series figures will also hit that include Thunderstrike, Shanna, armored Daredevil, Vulture and Dr. Octopus. They also said that new Spider-Man and Colossus figures will come out. A 2-pack of gray Beast and Sandman also made its debut along with a Marvel Legends Valkyrie. Everything's aimed for a spring 2015 release.
STAR WARS | Hasbro also opened the floodgate by showing off a slew of new Star Wars figures across all their different subgenera. The six inch Black Series will grow to include Luke as a Stormtrooper, Princess Leia as Boushh, Emperor Palpatine, IG-88, Commander Cody and a Clone Captain. The 3.75 inch Black Series is also getting new figures of Han Solo in Carbonite, Jawas, C-3PO, Clone Commander Thorn and Princess Leia as Boushh.
The simplified Mission Series line of 2-packs with five points of articulation will continue with sets that include "Star Wars Rebels" stars Ezra and Kanan as well as Hoth Han and Luke, Luke and Leia during the Death Star breakout and R2-D2 with Yoda. The similarly articulated single-carded figures in the Saga Legends line will gain Bespin Han, X-Wing pilot Luke and Lando in his "Jedi" disguise. Finally, Zeb of "Rebels" fame will be included in the 12-inch Hero Mission Series. Everything mentioned will debut next spring.
MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE | Mattel might not have attended NYCC, but they got in on the spirit by showing off a variety of upcoming Masters of the Universe pieces first in YouTube videos, then in official images on the Facebook page. Matty kicked off by showing off a variety of non-subscription figures for MOTUC. The first chase piece will be a spirit of King Grayskull that glows in the dark. The Classics line will also add Angella, Blast Attack, Sssqueeze with bendy arms and Multi-Bot.
The company also revealed the next batch of Minis which will only happen if enough people sign up for subscriptions. There will be six new 2-packs including She-Ra and a Horde Trooper, Mekaneck and Jitsu, as well as Trap Jaw and Ram Man. The new diorama, Snake Mountain, will come as one set only for subscribers.
THE WALKING DEAD | McFarlane Toys displayed plenty of new Walking Dead building sets at this year's New York Comic Con. We'd seen the Daryl Dixon and Chopper set as well as the Prison Tower and Gate, but the Governor's Room was a new reveal. Minifigures can also be purchased in either blind bagged options of five figure packs. All of these are now available exclusively at Toys "R" Us.
MOVIE MASTERPIECES | A pair of heavy metal heroes are both getting new Hot Toys figures in the near future. The Hong Kong company has a new Wolverine toy based on his appearance in "X-Men: Days of Future Past." Additionally, the company will offer a battle damaged version of Robocop. This is actually the very first 1/6th scale figure to feature Peter Weller's likeness in the face, hence the helmetless display.
BATMAN/SUPERMAN | Add Jae Lee among the legendary comic artists given a signature series of action figures from DC Collectibles. DCC Vice President, Creative Services Kevin Kiniry appeared in this video to show off Lee's take on Superman, Batman, Catwoman and Wonder Woman as seen in his run of "Batman/Superman." Catwoman comes with two heads so you can have her goggles up or down. They hit stores next summer.
SPIDER-MAN | J. Scott Campbell and Sideshow Collectibles continue to celebrate the life and times of Spider-Man with their line of polystone statues. The latest entry is an 18.25-inch tall statue of the Web Head wall-crawling, ready to shoot out some webs. The piece is expected to ship next May.
JUSTICE LEAGUE: THRONE OF ATLANTIS | Things are heating up under the sea in this trailer for DC's upcoming animated feature "Justice League: Throne of Atlantis. At around 1:57 of the video, the trailer ends and you get a first look at the action figures coming out from DC Collectibles based on the movie. The first wave includes Aquaman, Black Manta, Mera and Ocean Master. The movie and figures come ashore early next year.
SHE-HULK | She-Hulk's got power and pizzazz to spare, which comes through in Kotobukiya's latest Marvel Comics Bishoujo statue. Shulkie sports her white and purple costume and a flexing pose atop a rubble base. The only piece of information release aside from the images was a May 2015 release date.
GAME OF THRONES | Two different "Game of Thrones" figures will hit on April 15 from Dark Horse Deluxe. Based on HBO's interpretation of George R.R. Martin's series of novels, the two figures include an 8-inch Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish as well as a 2-pack of Hodor and Bran. Hodor stands nine inches tall and can carry Bran on his back, just like in the show!
POP! VINYL | October will see the release of several new kid-oriented waves of Pop! Vinyls. Fans of Disney animated features "Robin Hood" and "The Jungle Book" will have trios of toys to look for. The former will include Robin Hood, Prince John and Sir Hiss while the latter features Mowgli, Kaa and Shere Khan.
Meanwhile, the second series of the Magic: The Gathering line will include Gideon Jura, Elspeth Tirel, Tezzeret, Kiora Atua, Sarkhan Vol and a six-inch super-sized Nicol Bolas. This batch hits in November.
Finally, Funko announced a deal with Sesame Workshop to create a line of Sesame Street Pops. A Super Grover was available at NYCC, but the first wave will include Bert, Ernie, Big Bird, Oscar, Elmo, Cookie Monster, The Count and Grover sometime next year.
BIG BANG THEORY | Much like their small screen counterparts, the 8-inch Mego-style "Big Bang Theory" figures from Bif Bang Pow will come complete with costumes. A "Star Trek: The Original Series"-themed line will hit in Leonard, Sheldon, Howard, Amy and Bernadette all available now. Penny will hit next year. The Renaissance Fair costume versions of the guys are also available right now.
SONIC THE HEDGEHOG | The Sonic the Hedgehog line of statue from First 4 Figures continues to add new pieces. The latest is none other than Sonic's longtime enemy Dr. Robotnik. The 22-inch tall piece comes on a base modeled after his ship from the end of "Sonic the Hedgehog 2." The spring-shipping statue will ship with two extra hands holding the blue and green Chaos Emeralds.
REACTION | Funko's ReAction line continues to grow with each new film or franchise adapted into this retro '70s and '80s style. We saw the "Pulp Fiction" figures at New York Toy Fair this year, but the line -- which includes Vincent Vega, Jules Winnfield, Mia Wallace and Jimmie Dimmick -- will officially hit stores this month. Meanwhile, the second wave of "Alien"-centric figures will hit in November. This group includes a metallic alien, Ripley in her space suit and two versions of Kane, one with the chestburster, the other with a facehugger.
