TOYING AROUND: "Game Of Thrones," Batman & Spider-Man Debuts

This week was all about the heroes...mostly. If you're a fan of characters who tend towards doing right and punishing evil, then there was probably a figure or statue for your purchasing pleasure announced this week. Iconic characters like Batman and Spider-Man got new collectibles while '80s icons like Snake Plissken and Robocop also got some love. As always there are some outliers like some of the Pop Games characters sharing the spotlight, not to mention the black-and-white Universal Monsters set from Diamond Select Toys, but to keep things fairly orderly, let's bring on the good guys!

GAME OF THRONES | Dark Horse Deluxe wants to make the most of their "Game of Thrones" license. In addition to props and replicas, they're also creating some highly detailed figures based on HBO's adaptation of the George R.R. Martin books. The next wave, which hits in April of next year, will include Ned Stark, Tyrion Lannister and Khal Drogo and looks just like Sean Bean, Peter Dinklage and Jason Momoa, respectively.

BATMAN 66 | 2013 has been a good year for fans of the classic "Batman" TV show. The license finally opened up and we've seen all kinds of collectibles come out to celebrate the show. Diamond Select Toys recently unveiled their first entry into the show with the 6-inch tall resin bust of Adam West's version of the Dark Knight. The piece will be available early next year.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN | Hot Toys took to Facebook to show off dozens of photos of their upcoming "Amazing Spider-Man" figure based on Andrew Garfield's performance as the iconic character in the 2012 film. The toy not only features the usual variety of appendages and heads, but also a pair of webs to copy Spidey's various web-slinging techniques.

ITTY BITTY HELLBOY | The first word to come to mind when thinking about Mike Mignola's "Hellboy" isn't usually "adorable." That is, unless you're a fan of "Tiny Titans" creators Art Baltazar and Franco's "Itty Bitty Hellboy" book. The kinder, gentler versions of Hellboy and pal Abe Sapien get the collectible treatment with these plush toys that perfectly recreate the style of the comic. They'll be out in February of next year.

ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK | One of Kurt Russell's most iconic roles is finally getting the high-quality toy treatment thanks to Sideshow Collectibles. The iconic character of Snake Plissken first appeared in John Carpenter's Escape From New York and soon became and action icon of the '80s. In August, you'll be able to have one of your very own complete with all kinds of weapons and the wrist timer seen in the film. The Sideshow version comes with an extra hand holding the Nuclear Fusion Information Cassette Tape for even more movie-recreating fun.

ROBOCOP | Who would have thought that a Comic-Con International exclusive would create a whole subgenre of new figures. Collectors fell in love with NECA's Jason figure with a paint job based on the slasher's appearance in the 8-bit "Friday the 13th" NES game. That was followed by the same treatment for his on-screen nemesis Freddy Krueger, but the 8-bit paint job toys keep on coming. This week, NECA announced that Robocop will join his fellow NES-inspired '80s icons in February.

POP TV | Funko's Pop Vinyl line of figures will add two very popular "S" shows to their line-up come November. Both "Star Trek" and "Supernatural" will join the popular, multi-franchise format this fall. Captain Kirk, Spock, Scotty, a Klingon, Andorian and an Orion Slave Girl will make up the first wave of Trek toys while Sam and Dean will naturally kick things of for "Supernatural."

ALIEN VS. PREDATOR | After wowing Alien and Predator fans with their "AVP" Scar Predator figure, Hot Toys is back to do it again with the upcoming Celtic Predator. This one didn't make it nearly as far in the film as his pal, but still comes with all kinds of weapons, masks and even a dead alien head to stand in triumph over.

ALIENS | You can't have Predators without Aliens, so here's Sideshow Collectibles' upcoming Alien Warrior Legendary Scale Bust. The 13.5-inch tall piece is based on the creature's appearances from James Cameron's "Aliens" and even features that spooky extending mouth. The Sideshow exclusive version will come with the Aliens name plate seen in the picture above. Look for this Warrior to burst into stores next July.

POP GAMES | In their attempt to create figures for every franchise in every medium, Funko showed off a new batch of their Pop Vinyl figures, this one based on a group of beloved video games. In late November you can head to your favorite store and pick up Arthas and Illidan from "World of Warcraft," Diablo and Tyrael from "Diablo" and Jim Raynor and Kerrigan from "StarCraft."

UNIVERSAL MONSTERS | Every year around Halloween, Diamond Select Toys offers a variety of different Universal Monsters-based toys from MiniMates to entries in their Select scale of action figures. They're not letting up this year and are, in fact, offering a black-and-white painted box set of last year's offerings the Phantom of the Opera, the Invisible Man and the Metaluna Mutant from "This Island Earth." The repainted and repackaged figures will be out next month.
