A new piece of fan animation puts the characters of Toy Story into a version of Squid Game that is overseen by a vengeful Sid.

The animation was uploaded to Instagram by video content creator Mark Cannataro. The animation places Andy's toys, such as Buzz Lightyear and Woody, into the first of Squid Game's deadly trials. In a game of Red Light, Green Light, the toys need to move towards the finish line without being seen by Toy Story 4's Gabby Gabby Doll. Any toy caught moving after she turns then faces a punishing shot from Buzz's nemesis Emperor Zurg.

The animation lacks the more bloody results of the Netflix series, although Mr. Potato Head loses some body parts, which is not that rare of an outcome for the character. The short animation even contains direct references to scenes from the show, with Bo Peep saving Woody from an unlucky fall being an homage to Ali saving Gi-hun.

Despite the rather large disparity in genre and tone between Squid Game and Toy Story, they do share the theme of childhood games. The games in the show are simply sadistic re-imaginings of the classic games children used to play. While the Netflix series corrupts the childhood innocence of the games, Toy Story's antagonist Sid was always a character with a twisted imagination. As the animation concludes, the masked Front Man is revealed to be Sid, which is very on-brand for a character who wanted to blow up toys on a rocket.

Cannataro uploads content to a variety of platforms, including their YouTube channel. The creator has previously made short animations containing characters from Star WarsSuper Mario Bros., Looney Tunes and more.
