Comedian Don Rickles, who provided the voice work for Mr. Potato Head across the various Toy Story films and specials, passed away from complications of kidney failure in 2017. However, it appears Rickles will in fact be featured in the upcoming Toy Story 4.Toy Story 4 director Josh Cooley revealed that Rickles is in the movie for one last appearance as Mr. Potato Head. It was initially unknown if the character would be retired, like Wheezy the penguin was after his voice actor Joe Ranft passed away, or if the role would be recast, in the same way Blake Clark took over Slinky Dog after original voice actor Jim Varney died. However, it appears that Rickles did record enough of his dialogue for his Mr. Potato Head to appear in the film.

Directed by Josh Cooley, Toy Story 4 stars Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Keanu Reeves, Annie Potts, Don Rickles, Estelle Harris, Wallace Shawn, John Ratzenberger, Jeff Pidgeon, Blake Clark, Keegan-Michael Key, Jordan Peele and Tony Hale. The film opens Jun. 21.
