The world’s premiere brick-building toy company wowed New York Toy Fair attendees once again with a stunning stable of properties that cover a wide swath of the geek landscape. Superheroes, of course, got plenty of love in both film and comic books forms. And speaking of films, the worlds of Star Wars, Harry Potter and Jurassic World will also see amazing new sets ready in the coming years.
Given all of the excitement surrounding Star Wars, that seems like a good place to start. It’s a beloved tradition to get early looks at films by way of LEGO, so check out the Solo: A Star Wars Story take on the Millennium Falcon! This construction features plenty of play options with flap-like features on top that fold out to reveal the inner workings of the ship. For added play value, it also sports landing gear, firing missiles and the crew of the ship as minifigures.
If you’re looking to recreate scenes from last year’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, then you can build up sets like Ahch-To Island Training, Defense of Crait, First Order AT-ST or Ski-Speeeder vs. First Order Walker. For more classic environments, The Tatooine Battle Pack comes with enough Jawas to shake a Gaderffi staff at which works because it also comes with a Sand Person. Or if you’re looking to hone your Jedi powers, dig into Yoda’s Hut on Dagobah.
Meanwhile, the Micro Fighter line will grow to include a Millennium Falcon piloted by Chewbacca, a First Order TIE Fighter and the A-Wing vs. TIE Silencer pack. Finally, the Jedi Clone Troopers Battle Pack and General Grievous Combat Speeder offer up a few favorites from the prequels!
For another early film look, lay those peepers on these sets based on the June 22-debuting Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. These include the enormous Indoraptor Rampage At Lockwood Estate and the multi-piece Carnotaurus Gyrosphere Escape as well as the Pteranodon Chase, Stygimoloch Breakout and the many-vehicled Blue’s Helicopter Pursuit.
Mighty Marvel fans will be impressed by the huge reveal of the show from the House of Ideas: The Hulkbuster: Ultron Edition. Once constructed, the resulting Hulkbuster will feature multiple points of posability, a rotating torso, interchangeable left arms and moveable robotic construction arms. The set also features an Iron Man Mark 43 minifigure, a light-up brick in the chest, a flip-open head piece and a fire extinguisher.
For more Marvel fun, the Mighty Micros car-themed 2-packs will welcome Loki and Thor, Spider-Man and Sandman and Star-Lord and Nebula. Note how Nebula’s holding Peter Quill’s tape, and the ticked look on his face!
The Mighty Micros also continue on the DC side of LEGO with 2-packs of Batman and Harley Quinn, Brainiac and Supergirl and Joker and Nightwing.
More DC sets will include the likes of Lobo in Superman Krypto Team-Up, various Flash characters in Speed Force Freeze Pursuit and the huge craziness of Lex Luthor Mech Takedown. That last set comes with minifigures of Lex, Wonder Woman, Batman, Cheetah and Firestorm.
For more bricky takes on the Dark Knight, last year’s The LEGO Batman Movie continues to inspire new sets with its unique blend of humor, action and deep-cut superhero jokes. For instance, the Egghead Mech Food Fight set not only features the villain Vincent Price originated on the ’60s Batman series, but also Condiment King! Other sets include the spacey Bat-Space Shuttle, The Bat-Dune Buggy, Harley Quinn Cannonball Attack and The Justice League Anniversary Party.
Finally, Harry Potter fans take note, LEGO’s got a set that’s so cool, you’ll be wishing magic was real so you could conjure one up! That’s the Hogwards Great Hall set. With one side looking like the outside and other opposite so you can get your minifigures inside, this set features the title setting, as well as other features like the Sorting Hat and other iconic items, characters and characters from the films.
