Warning: The following contains spoilers for Tower of God, Chapter 516, “The One High Above 03”, by SIU, now available on Webtoon.

Tower of God often puts its protagonist Bam in unpredictable and dangerous situations, so it’s really no surprise that he would end up in another one of such situations. Most of the time, Bam is placed into such situations by outside factors, such as when he was forced to become the slayer candidate. But this time, he’s willingly walking into a dangerous situation with his friends, where the only known factor is that he is probably not going to escape without a fight.

At the beginning of chapter 516, Mascheny Jahad finally revealed her intentions with Bam: she wants him to go into the Nest’s teleporter in Ha Jinsung’s stead, and retrieve what’s inside. The teleporter is in the Nest’s suspendium, connected to Lo Po Bia’s mothership, but even Mascheny doesn’t know how to escape it. Since it was established in the last chapter that Lo Po Bia’s condition for waging the war is to take charge of dealing with Bam, this is obviously a trap to get Bam to Lo Po Bia. Mascheny didn’t even try to hide this fact, which is a sign of extreme confidence.

Mascheny’s attitude towards Bam perfectly showed off her personality. She clearly knew how important Bam was and acknowledged that everyone is trying to get their hands on the Irregular. But she also knew that she completely controlled the situation, as long as she controlled Ha Jinsung, so she can get Bam to do anything she wanted. She is not only arrogant, as most Jahad Princesses are, but calculating and tactful, because her seemingly rude and very one-sided proposal was based on a deep knowledge of Bam as well as of the current situation. Even if Bam failed to retrieve whatever she needed, she could still send Bam to the Lo Po Bia mothership, so she is in a win-win position no matter what happens.

Knowing Bam’s resolve, Aguero and Rak are also determined to follow him onto this potential suicide mission, which is to be expected. But Vincente and Aria followed them as well and which added a huge degree of uncertainty. As established, Vincente might have an ulterior motive, and White was still inside of him. Aria is also a wildcard, but her special immortality could make her useful in future battles.

Tower of God 516 Bam's determined expression

Several risks lay ahead for Bam and his friends. As this chapter emphasized, it is almost impossible to get out of the suspendium, and they are likely going to be trapped with absolutely no way out. This could lead to one (or a few) of them being left behind which could lead to even more rescue scenarios. This could eventually lead to Bam being teleported into Lo Po Bia’s mothership and meeting Lo Po Bia’s Family Head, whose intentions are still unknown. But now it seems that their meeting is almost inevitable.

Another major unknown is the item inside the suspendium. Mascheny wanted it so bad that she had devised this very elaborate trap to lure Bam to it, which means it holds incredible value. It could be a major secret, something extremely dangerous, or something that can provide immense powers. Since it is kept within the Nest, it most likely belongs to Lo Po Bia’s Family. The fact that Mascheny wanted to keep this a secret, may mean that it could be used as a threat against the family or even Jahad. Bam's action could also incur further wrath from these groups and put him in even more danger.

Tower of God 516 the new suicide squad

Finally, given Mascheny’s shrewdness, even if Bam successfully got her the item and came back in one piece, there is no guarantee that Ha Jinsung will be safely released. Because she can use Ha Jinsung in the same way that she used Bam, now that she knows both master and disciple care about each other equally. She can continue to use them to do her bidding, or worse, as a bargaining chip for whatever her future plans might be.
