It's unclear which of the two female leads Biel would play. According to the trade paper, early buzz had Biel eyeing the role of Melina, a member of the rebels portrayed in the original 1990 film by Rachel Ticotin. However, there's now indication should could be trying for Lori, the part played by Sharon Stone. Kate Bosworth, Eva Green, Eva Mendes and Paula Patton are all thought to have tried out for the roles.
Wiseman’s remake is expected to stick closer to Philip K. Dick’s 1966 short story “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale” than Paul Verhoeven’s 1990 adaptation did. The new version centers on Douglas Quaid (Farrell), an ordinary factory worker in New Shanghai who begins to believe he’s a spy, but he’s not sure for which side — New Shanghai or the rival nation state Euromerica. Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston was cast last month as Vilos Cohaagen, the villainous leader of Euromerica.
Biel, who's best known for her modeling and for her role on 7th Heaven, recently appeared in Fox's movie version of The A-Team.
