Christopher Nolan's Tenet will grace the covers of May's Total Film magazine.

The magazine will come with two covers; the first features John David Washington's protagonist holding a pistol, with the cover appearing to shift in and out of time. This acts as a clever reference to the film's concept of "inversion," where objects and people move backward in time. The second features Washington in riot gear, with Robert Pattinson's yet-to-be-named character standing behind him. The issue promises an exclusive visit to the set of Tenet, calling it Nolan's most ambitious film yet.

The official synopsis for Tenet says its Protagonist is "fighting for the survival of the entire world," and hints that inversion will play a major role in the film's plot.

The full synopsis for Tenet is below:

John David Washington is the new Protagonist in Christopher Nolan’s original sci-fi action spectacle “Tenet.” Armed with only one word—Tenet—and fighting for the survival of the entire world, the Protagonist journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a mission that will unfold in something beyond real time. Not time travel. Inversion.

The May issue of Total Film goes on sale Friday, May 29.

Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, Tenet stars John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Clemence Poesy, Michael Caine and Kenneth Branagh. The film arrives in theaters July 17.
