Paramount Pictures today released the first official trailer for the upcoming Top Gun: Maverick. The trailer was released during Comic-Con International in San Diego and is the first extended glimpse at the sequel more than three decades in the making.
The trailer catches up with Tom Cruise's titular Maverick, a pilot still taking to the skies despite the fact that he has clearly aged out of his profession and should be occupying an Air Force desk, commanding missions from the ground. Maverick's superior, played by Ed Harris, informs him of as much, that he could be an admiral by now if he desired.
Maverick just chalks it up to one of life's many mysteries.
The film is a sequel to the 1986 film Top Gun, which stars Cruise and Anthony Edwards as a pilots sent to a naval weapons school named Topgun. There, they meet Charlie, a civilian instructor at the school who eventually becomes Maverick's love interest, and Iceman, another Topgun pilot played by Val Kilmer who considers Maverick's piloting style to be too dangerous.
Directed by Joseph Kosinski, from a screenplay by Peter Craig, Justin Marks and Eric Warren Singer, Top Gun: Maverick stars Tom Cruise, Jennifer Connelly, Val Kilmer, Ed Harris, Jon Hamm, Miles Teller, Glen Powell, Manny Jacinto, and more. The film is scheduled to be released on June 26, 2020.
