4. Silver Sable

This is one of Tom DeFalco's better inventions, even though the design of the character is not that good.

3. Taskmaster

I realized I really couldn't have Cable on this list, as this list is CURRENT mercenaries, and Cable hasn't been one in years.

Luckily, I forgot an awesome mercenary - Taskmaster!!

What I love about Taskmaster is that he's the one dude who just doesn't get caught. That's a really cool shtick.

2. Paladin

Paladin is, to me, the perfect ideal of mercenary-dom. He is basically immoral, but he has a certain code of honor that he lives by.

He is a great character, and he's one that I'm constantly waiting for some writer to kill him.

1. Deadpool

Possibly Rob Liefeld's greatest creation?

It's almost twenty years since Deadpool was created, and the joke has not gotten dull yet.
