According to creator Loren Bouchard in an interview, some of the characters were developed around specific actors such as H. Jon Benjamin (Bob Belcher), Kristen Schaal (Louise Blecher), or Eugene Mirman (Gene Belcher). Additionally, in another interview, Bouchard stated they tend to cast comedians as "they come to the gig with a practiced and honed ability to make you laugh using just their voice and a microphone."

10 Phillip Frond

The Belcher children's guidance counselor at Wagstaff school. Mr. Frond is a character viewers love to hate. His stringent authority conflicts with the carefree and sometimes unruly Belcher kids. He's a prime target of Louise's, who relishes making him squirm. His overall pathetic and goofy demeanor not only keeps him from being completely despised but also revered as one of the more enjoyable characters. He's portrayed by veteran actor David Herman. Herman voiced Frond with a suitably meek, nerdy voice.

9 Andy & Ollie Pesto

Inseparable, these twins practically came out of the womb holding hands. They're Louise's best friends.  They constantly grouped up with Louise and the other kids to pull off a scheme or be mischievous.  Despite being treated as expendable Louise genuinely appreciates them and values their friendship.

Their random quips and sincere candor make them endearing. The duo's respectively played by actual life siblings Sarah (Ollie) and Laura (Andy) Silverman.

8 Gayle

The younger, eccentric sister of Linda Belcher.  Gayle gravitated towards her sister as a means of security. Inquiring favors and money to establish her short-lived, peculiar ventures (getting headshots for her cat or hosting an art gallery of animal butt-holes). Gayle also roped the Belchers into doing her bidding. Despite her needy nature, she's occasionally helpful by watching the kids or running errands. Gayle's ecestatic energy and dramatic personality were captured exquisitely by Megan Mullally.

7 Calvin Fischoeder

The Belchers' landlord and owner of the Wonder Wharf amusement park. Mr. Fischoeder's a suspicious character who's capable of convincing/wining over others with his charisma and wit. He frequently engaged the Belchers, pawned them into his plans.

Mr. Fischoeder has a wild streak, one of his favorite hobbies is watching a show about car crashes with his maid Inga. He also has a younger brother named Felix who he condescends but cares about. Kevin Kline portrays Mr. Fischoeder. He initially accepted the role because his children were fans of the show.

6 Teddy

Teddy's a skilled contractor who frequently aided the Belchers and dined at their establishment. He meant  well but tended to overstay his welcome and exasperated those with his clinginess and awkward mannerisms. He constantly craved human interaction and went go to great lengths to continue an already prolonged conversation/interaction. Nevertheless, he's a loyal friend who'd do anything for his pals especially the Belchers. Teddy's voiced by Larry Murphy.

5 Gene Belcher

The middle child and only son of Bob and Linda. Gene's a boisterous, passionate, and virtuoso force to be reckoned with. He regaled/annoyed his family and others with his musical compositions and offbeat remarks. A fart connoisseur, he's capable of noting the distinctions of an individual's flatulence and constantly referenced them.

A team player, Gene doesn't mind working on the sidelines but he also has no problem being a leader (orchestrating a school musical or heading a scheme). He's portrayed by Eugene Mirman who improvized a substantial amount of Gene's nonsensical quips.

4 Bob Belcher

Bob's the proprietor of Bob's Burgers, father of Tina, Gene and Louise, and husband to Linda. He's low-key but was rattled by his family's quirks and escapades. He's usually the voice of reason but could succumb to his weaknesses. His love for cooking (like his family) knew no bounds. Sporting a knowledge of exotic ingredients and cooking techniques (concocting a beef tartare inside a burger). Bob's portrayed by H. Jon Benjamin who's a frequent collaborator of Loren Bouchard.

3 Tina Belcher

Tina's the oldest child and daughter of the Belcher children. On the surface, she came off as timid. However, underneath was her unbeatable, blinding confidence.

She's certain who she was and what she offered to the table. Similar to Gene she's creative but instead of making music, she wrote stories particularly erotic friend-fiction. She's another voice of reason but tended to give in to peer pressure. Tina's acted by Dan Mintz who said her personality is close to his own.

2 Louise Belcher

Louise was the youngest daughter and child. She's an incredibly adept child who's wise beyond her years. She talked to adults on her level and carried herself as this fearless, bold spit-fire. Undaunted by authority or bullies, Louise constantly stood up for herself and others. However, she could be vulnerable such as when she lost her bunny ears or fell head over heels for singer Boo Boo. Louise was voiced by Kristen Schaal who (according to Deadline.com) won the 2016 Annie Award for Outstanding Achievement, Voice Acting in an Animated TV/Broadcast Production in the episode "Hawk+Chick."

1 Linda Belcher

Linda was the matriarch of the Belcher clan. She had an insatiable zest for life. She jumped at any opportunity for excitement or novelty. Her confidence was beaming and infected those around her. Linda was a mediator not just to her family but also to friends and strangers. She genuinely wanted everyone to be feel good about themselves and have happily ever afters but could get caught up in the moment and intrude others' lives. She adored her children and praised their accomplishments. She and Bob had a strong relationship and through thick and thin they've come out okay in any situation. Linda's acted by John Roberts who based her off his mother.
