For the 2012 year end data, Diamond provided the top 500 comics and the top 500 trade lists but no index values were provided for those lists. I took the total known sales for each issue over the year and used that to calculate the minimum number of estimated units each item on the list sold. As a result, the list stair steps in an odd manner which reflects the data that was and wasn't available from the monthly lists. This year end data is more of a ballpark of how the items sold versus the usual monthly estimates based on the order index for each item.
DC had 260 of the items list of the top 500 comics for 2012 with Marvel taking another 231 of the slots on the list. Image was a distant third with 16 items followed by Dynamite Entertainment and IDW Publishing with 2 items each and Valiant with only a single item on the list. On the trades list, DC took 207 of the top 500 slots with Marvel a distant second 104 items on the list. Image placed 5 items while Image had 48 and IDW another 15. The remaining 71 items were split across another 17 publishers.
