It's been a big month for new "Iron Man 3" images, with Marvel releasing official posters of Sir Ben Kingsley as the Mandarin, Don Cheadle as War Machine/Iron Patriot and Guy Pearce as Aldrich Killian -- and Empire Magazine brings Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man to the cover of its upcoming issue, bringing readers and fans a close look at the newest Iron Man armor in all its battle-damaged glory. If promotional images and trailers are any indication, Tony Stark is going to war in a big way.

If that weren't enough, Marvel revealed another character poster via its official Facebook Page featuring Gwyneth Paltrow as Virginia "Pepper" Potts, cradling a ravaged Iron Man helmet in her arms with a saddened expression on her face, indicating things don't look great for the Armored Avenger.

Check out the film's official synopsis below.

Marvel Studios' "Iron Man 3" pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy's hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

Directed by Shane Black, "Iron Man 3" also stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Jon Favreau, Rebecca Hall, James Badge Dale and Ashley Hamilton. It opens May 3.
