Remasters of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4 were apparently in development, according to the eponymous skateboarder Tony Hawk himself.

Appearing recently on a Twitch stream with Andy Gentile, a developer on the recent Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2, Hawk revealed that Activision actually wanted to go forward with more Pro Skater remasters. Unfortunately, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 development studio Vicarious Visions was absorbed by its sister studio, Blizzard Entertainment, leaving nobody to work on a follow-up.

According to Hawk, Activision was still eager to continue the series after the success of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2. Without Vicarious Visions present to develop the game, the company apparently went looking for a new studio to work on the series. As Hawk puts it, "The truth of it is, they were trying to find someone to do [Tony Hawk's Pro Skater] 3+4, but they just didn't really trust anyone the way they did Vicarious." Without an obvious angle to attack the new title, Activision began accepting pitches from outside studios, but none were promising enough to make it to development.

Hawk's comments on Gentile's stream don't bode well for the future of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater as a series. While fans expected an announcement after cryptic messages surfaced on the official Tony Hawk's Pro Skater Twitter account in January 2022, it seems as though any plans Activision may have once had are distant memories now.

Vicarious Visions no longer exists in its original form, now acting as a regional extension of Blizzard Entertainment in Albany, New York. The team is helping development on future Diablo and Overwatch titles and recently helped with the development of Diablo II: Resurrected, a remake of 2000's Diablo II.

Hawk doesn't totally rule out the possibility of a new THPS title on Gentile's stream -- as he says, "I would never have imagined we were gonna do 1+2 twenty years later." Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4 may never see the light of day, but Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 is available on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
