When he moved from "Batman" to DC Comics' namesake title, writer/artist Tony Daniel brought "Detective Comics" back to a top-selling position in the comic charts. Even as the New 52 relaunch of the publisher's line last year boosted sales across the board, Daniel's work with the Dark Knight, the Joker and a slew of new villains took fans by surprise with its strong style and performance.

But this September, it will all come to an end.

"My Batman/Detective run is coming to an end. My final written (and drawn) issue is Detective Comics #12. I'll be producing the art only for issue 0," the creator wrote on his Facebook page. "It's been a long and adventurous journey for me, but there are other projects in the pipeline that I've been itching to do and I felt the need to scratch the itch. Next week DC will reveal some information on what one of the projects is I'm involved with. Then I'm gearing up for something I've wanted to do for a while in early 2013, a project where I hope to grow even more as an artist and a professional. It is top secret, and probably won't be revealed until the fall. I want to thank all my friends, family and fans for supporting me through these crazy last few years. Onward and Upward!"

While writer Gregg Hurwitz is joining Daniel for "Detective Comics" #0, Newsarama notes that the scribe will not stay on the title come October. The issue will mark the end of a long run Daniel has had with the Dark Knight, dating back to work with Grant Morrison ahead of and through the "Batman R.I.P." story as well as his DC writing debut on the "Battle For The Cowl" event.

Of course, that leaves two questions for fans of Daniel's work moving forward: what will the artist's next gig be, and who will take the reigns of "Detective Comics" this fall?
