WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for The Tomorrow War, now available on Amazon Prime.

In The Tomorrow War, it becomes pretty obvious right off the bat that this film doesn't lean into much logic. It's an alien apocalypse flick that's as wild and ridiculous as the Fast & Furious movies, evidenced by the opening arc where Chris Pratt's Dan Forester is turned from a scientist into a full-blown temporal soldier. However, as Dan's debriefed and thrown, literally, into this world-saving mission, it becomes clear that The Tomorrow War doesn't care about its main protagonist as he could have been killed almost immediately in the line of duty due to terrible logistics.

A human resistance has come back to Dan's time in 2022 to let the world know they need to turn the United Nations into a true global coalition. They're using chronal tech known as the Jump-Link that can shoot people to and from 2051 to fight aliens, known as White Spikes, who've appeared out of the blue.

The problem is, the aliens are far superior, and by the time 2023 rolls around, the world population has been dwindled to less than 500,000. Normal citizens have been conscripted and sent over out of fear and desperation, with the resistance communicating that you either sign up or be thrown in jail, leaving your loved ones to take your place.

Dan's eventually taken for duty, with a Jump-Band strapped to his hand, prepping him to go fight for seven days before he's sucked back to his time. This is where it gets careless because we can tell the resistance doesn't give a damn about its makeshift soldiers. Some of them don't have proper training, let alone gear, and like Charlie, they even go into the field without understanding weapons and equipment. It infuriates war vets like Dorian, but at this point, any rebel's a good rebel.

It culminates in a surprise alien attack at a Miami base which requires Dan's team to be sent to the future to recover key scientific research on the invaders. As the soldiers get sucked up, we see them literally being dropped from portals hundreds of feet in the air to the ground. However, there's no parachute or pad to catch the team; it's all a game of chance as they free fall at very high speeds -- many to their deaths.

Tomorrow War Future

We see unlucky guys slamming into buildings and debris, with others falling into the streets or even into explosions. At this point, you're expendable even before you land, so if you make it back, you've earned your pay from just surviving the drop alone.

Dan just so happens to fall in the right place at the right time, plummeting into a pool, but had his teleportation been a bit off, he'd be splattered on the ground. This perfectly explains why there's such a high death rate in soldiers, as clearly, many die from the bad drops. What's ironic is that some guys here could actually have drowned according to what equipment and bags they were lugging around. It's all so random and disrespects the guys charged with saving Earth, leaving us glad that Dan knew how to swim as well.

Starring Chris Pratt, Yvonne Strahovski, Sam Richardson, Betty Gilpin, J.K. Simmons and Edwin Hodge, The Tomorrow War is now available on Amazon Prime.
