Skull Island appears to follow 2017's Kong: Skull Island, which featured a group of scientists and soldiers venturing off to the mysterious Skull Island in 1973, where they meet the massive Kong and the other monstrous creatures that call the island home. As for Tomb Raider, it picks up after the events of Square Enix's recent reboot trilogy with 2013's Tomb Raider, 2015's Rise of the Tomb Raider and 2018's Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

Both franchises are making moves on the big screen, with Godzilla vs. Kong pushing its release date back one week, and Lovecraft Country's Misha Green helming the Tomb Raider sequel.

Tomb Raider and Skull Island join Netflix's previously announced Pacific Rim: The Black anime series.
