In the pantheon of horror icons, Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th franchise is one of the most iconic. With his signature hockey mask and blood-spattered machete, he cuts an imposing figure. Now, horror fans have a chance to rep Vorhees while practicing safe health guidelines.Horror makeup artist Tom Savini, who worked on the original Friday the 13th film, is crafting protective facemasks based on Vorhees' hockey headwear. Savini created the masks in conjunction with fellow special effects/makeup artist Jason Baker, who worked on The Dark Knight Rises.
Each mask will be sold for $60 apiece, with masks signed by Savini carrying a $100 price tag. Baker noted that due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, shipments will be slightly delayed. "We're currently running a skeleton crew for obvious health reasons and taking extra precautions," he wrote. "We're sending out shipments everyday and trying to fill orders as quickly as possible."
Several masks have started to arrive at their destinations, with fans tweeting pictures of themselves wearing them. Baker and Savini's initiative not only helps others practice proper health guidelines, but it's also a great way for fans to represent their love of the classic horror series.
The Friday the 13th franchise has spawned several films, as well as a video game developed by Gun Media.
