Writer Tom King joined Watchmen TV series creator, Damon Lindelof, for a virtual sit-down at DC FanDome: Explore the Multiverse to discuss his upcoming comic book series, Rorschach. During the conversation, King revealed that his story could be seen as a continuation of both the original series and the HBO show.

King explained that he was originally not on board with writing a extension of Alan Moore's legendary Watchmen series, comparing the pressure of such an undertaking to following Richard Pryor's comedy act. However, when King saw Lindelof's modern perspective on the source material, he realized that creating a fresh take was a possibility and agreed to take the job.

"The TV show meant so much to me," King said when asked about Rorschach's continuity. "I don't reference it, or make it in the world, but I make it so nothing contradicts with the TV show. So if you've seen the TV show, you can imagine that this is happening a little bit afterwards."

King has been particularly vocal in saying that Rorschach as a character is just as relevant in 2020 as he was in 1986, and that's what makes him excited to apply the character to these pertinent times.

Written by Tom King and illustrated by Jorge Fornés, Rorschach #1 goes on sale Oct. 13 from DC Comics.
