Now that final figures have come in, Tom and Jerry performed even better on its opening weekend than box office estimates suggested.According to Gitesh Pandya on Twitter, Tom and Jerry "finished its US opening [weekend] BETTER than estimated" with a total of $14.11M. The film's final opening weekend average was "a stellar $5,701 from 2,475 [theaters]." Pandya continued, "The 3-day non-holiday #boxoffice gross was about the same as the 5-day Thanksgiving holiday [weekend] debut of #CroodsNewAge." The original estimates had Tom and Jerry opening to $13.7 million.RELATED: Avengers: Endgame's Opening Box Office Record Has Been Crushed

This opening weekend for Tom and Jerry gives it the second-biggest domestic bow for a feature film since the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic began, with only the $16.1 million debut of Wonder Woman 1984 faring better. Making this debut more impressive is that Tom and Jerry was available to stream on HBO Max the same day it hit theaters and that more than half of North American movie theaters are currently closed.

This box office success has carried over to international territories, where the film is not currently available on any streaming service. Tom and Jerry has already grossed $25.1 million overseas after opening in countries like Singapore and Brazil.

Directed by Tim Story and produced by Chris DeFaria, Tom and Jerry stars Chloë Grace Moretz, Michael Peña, Colin Jost, Rob Delaney, Pallavi Sharda, Patsy Ferran, Bobby Cannavale, Lil Rel Howery and Ken Jeong. The film is in theaters and streaming on HBO Max.
