The Marvel Cinematic Universe's Spider-Man star Tom Holland said in a recent interview that he'd be a strong candidate to play the next James Bond.

"I've got two roles coming up that I’m playing in the next few years that I’m really excited about, but I can't talk about them yet," Holland told Variety during a new interview about the upcoming Spider-Man 3. "But I mean, ultimately, as a young British lad who loves cinema, I’d love to be James Bond." The actor added that he was just "putting that out there," noting, "I look pretty good in a suit. I'd be like a really short James Bond."

Holland's comments about stepping into the role of 007 come about a month after Bridgerton star Regé-Jean Page emerged as a potential candidate to play the next Bond. Following the success of the Netflix series, British betting firm Ladbrokes reported that Page now has a 5/1 chance to replace Daniel Craig as the international spy, jumping from his previous 40/1 chance at Christmas 2020.

At the time, Ladbrokes representative Alex Apati explained, "Tom Hardy still leads the way as favorite, with James Norton close behind in second place. But it really is all to play for in the race for 007 and RJP has a great chance if the odds are anything to go by." Apati also compared Page's introduction to the Bond conversation to similar ones involving Irish actor Cillian Murphy and Scottish actor Richard Madden following their starring roles in Peaky Blinders and Game of Thrones, respectively.

In other Bond-related news, footage of a canceled remake of the popular GoldenEye 007 video game recently emerged online, causing gamers to wonder what could have been had the updated game been released during the Xbox 360 era. Leaked in full by YouTuber Graslu00, the footage featured improved weapon models, smoother game play and crisper visuals in comparison to the original 1997 game.

While it's unclear if a remake of GoldenEye will ever be released, IO Interactive announced last year that it had secured the license to make a brand new Bond game. As such, Rare and Microsoft would have to make a separate deal to release a remake.

Current 007 Daniel Craig will reprise his role as James Bond for the fifth and final time in the upcoming No Time to Die. The film follows the super spy as he battles the villain Safin (Rami Malek) and learns of a dark secret about his wife Madeleine (Léa Seydoux).

Directed and co-written by Cary Fukunaga, No Time to Die stars Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Rory Kinnear, Léa Seydoux, Ben Whishaw, Jeffrey Wright, Ana de Armas, Dali Benssalah, David Dencik, Lashana Lynch, Billy Magnussen and Rami Malek. The film arrives in theaters April 2.
