Spider-Man remaining into the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a third film has led to an unexpected consequence: the long-planned cinematic adaptation of the popular video game franchise Uncharted has been delayed and lost yet another attached director.

Travis Knight, who was attached to the video game movie since September, has reportedly dropped out of the project in the wake of star Tom Holland's commitments to a third Spider-Man solo film, which resulted in a scheduling conflict. Sony remains committed to producing a feature film adaptation of the acclaimed franchise, though the film has been delayed from its planned Dec. 18, 2020 release date.

Knight, who helmed Bumblebee, replaced Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane). Trachtenberg, meanwhile, departed the project in August -- the fourth director to drop out following Seth Gordon (Baywatch), David O. Russell (American Hustle) and Neil Burger (Divergent).

A sequel to Spider-Man: Far From Home is currently in pre-production, with a planned release date of July 16, 2021. That said, with both films produced by Sony, the studio appears more committed to following up Far From Home's billion-dollar success at the worldwide box office with Uncharted, which was originally been slated to begin principal photography early in 2020.
