Tom Holland has reportedly closed a deal to return as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Sony Pictures and Marvel Studio's upcoming Spider-Man 4.According to multiple insiders on Twitter (via The Direct), Holland has signed a new Marvel/Sony contract that will see the actor return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the beloved Wall-Crawler. While it is currently unknown how many films the new deal will cover, Cosmic Circus' Alex Perez tweeted that "Holland’s contract does not feature Disney+ appearances," which will surely disappoint fans who were hoping to see the webslinger cameo in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again. Holland first appeared in the MCU as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in 2016's Captain America: Civil War and has since appeared in three solo films and two Avengers movies. A fourth Spider-Man film was confirmed to be in development in December 2021. While plot details remain scarce for Spider-Man 4, the sequel will likely pick up after the events of 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home, which ended with Doctor Strange erasing everyone's memories of Peter Parker to protect the multiverse. The film's final moments saw Peter resume his vigilantism, wearing a new comics-accurate suit. Spider-Man 4's story has also been described as "street-level," with the film rumored to be connected to "the aftermath of Daredevil: Born Again."

When Will Spider-Man 4 Hit Theaters?

Sony and Marvel have not officially announced a release date for Spider-Man 4, but the studios are reportedly in active discussion regarding when Spidey's next solo adventure should hit theaters. Based on an October 2022 report, the current plan is for Spider-Man 4 to hit the big screen on July 12, 2024, near the tail end of Phase 5 of the MCU. Thunderbolts, another upcoming MCU film, is currently slated to open two weeks after that Spider-Man 4 date on July 26. However, Marvel has adjusted its release schedule in the past to fit in the webslinger's solo films since Sony reportedly has the final say on when new Spider-Man films will hit theaters. If the July 2024 release date is correct, Spider-Man 4 will open in theaters two and a half years after No Way Home, which premiered in December 2021.
