The first trailer has been released for Chaos Walking, the Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley-starring adaptation of the young-adult novel The Knife of Never Letting Go.

The trailer begins with a space shuttle piloted by Ridley's Viola Eade crashlanding on Earth, where it's discovered by Holland's Todd Hewitt. However, we quickly learn Viola is able to read Todd's mind, as well as the minds of all the men on a planet devoid of any other women.

Lionsgate Films acquired the rights to the Chaos Walking trilogy adaption in 2011, and the project underwent a major rewrite after Charlie Kaufman departed. Casting began in 2016, shortly after Liman signed on to direct, and principal photography began in August 2017. Due to poor test screenings, significant reshoots were required, but they didn't begin until April 2019 because of Ridley's work on Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and Holland's work on Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Around the time of the reshoots, it was reported that Chaos Walking "turned out so poorly it was deemed unreleasable by executives who watched initial cuts last year, according to current and former employees."

In the not too distant future, Todd Hewitt (Tom Holland) discovers Viola (Daisy Ridley), a mysterious girl who crash lands on his planet, where all the women have disappeared and the men are afflicted by "the Noise" - a force that puts all their thoughts on display. In this dangerous landscape, Viola's life is threatened - and as Todd vows to protect her, he will have to discover his own inner power and unlock the planet's dark secrets.

Directed by Doug Liman, Chaos Walking stars Tom Holland, Daisy Ridley, Mads Mikkelsen, Demián Bichir, Cynthia Erivo, Nick Jonas, Kurt Sutter and David Oyelowo. The film arrives in theaters in 2021.
