Disney's D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, comes during a rough time for Spider-Man franchise, as Sony Pictures and the House of Mouse have seemingly split over an inability to reach a new agreement. Spider-Man actor Tom Holland appeared at the event to promote Pixar movie Onward with fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe star Chris Pratt, where fans told him just what they wanted.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that as Holland took the stage next to Pratt, several fans chanted "save Spider-Man." Holland said, "It's so good to be at D23. It's the best day of the year... It's been a crazy week, but I want you to know I am grateful from the bottom of my heart and I love you 3,000," quoting Avengers: Endgame.

After Sony Pictures and Disney's split, fans started a petition to bring Spider-Man back to the MCU. That petition is up to over 96,000 signatures as of writing. At this time it's unclear if Spider-Man will appear in future MCU films, as the two studios might still reach a deal.

As of right now, Spider-Man: Far From Home, which has grossed over $1 billion worldwide, may be Holland's final turn as the character in the MCU. Director Jon Watts’ Spider-Man: Far From Home stars Tom Holland, Samuel L. Jackson, Zendaya, Cobie Smulders, Jon Favreau, JB Smoove, Jacob Batalon and Martin Starr, with Marisa Tomei and Jake Gyllenhaal. The film is currently in theaters.

Written and directed by Dan Scanlon, Onward stars Chris Pratt, Tom Holland, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Octavia Spencer. It opens in theaters on March 6, 2020.
