Tom Holland believes Spider-Man: No Way Home allowed co-star Andrew Garfield to make his peace with Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

In an interview with Marvel.com, Holland and Zendaya, who plays MJ in No Way Home, talked about the movie's various high-profile cameos. When the subject turned to Garfield, Holland said, "Andrew Garfield, the legend himself. He's such a lovely guy. I think this film was his way of making peace with Spider-Man It was such a privilege to work with him. I know that it meant a lot to him." Zendaya added that it was beautiful to see Holland, Garfield and Tobey Maguire bonding over the experience of playing Spider-Man.

Set immediately after the events of 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home, No Way Home sees Peter enlisting the help of Doctor Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) in re-hiding his identity after it was exposed by Quentin Beck/Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal). However, the spell goes awry, and they end up bringing a number of villains from older Spider-Man franchises into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Those villains include Curt Conners/Lizard (Rhys Ifans) and Max Dillon/Electro (Jamie Foxx) from Garfield's Amazing Spider-Man duology. Eventually, Peter teams up with Garfield's Peter -- whom Marvel has dubbed the Amazing Spider-Man -- and Maguire's Peter, also known as the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

In No Way Home, Garfield's Peter still feels guilt and pain over the death of Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) at the end of 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man 2. However, he later finds some solace when, during the trio's battle against their classic foes, he catches MJ after she falls from the Statue of Liberty. While Garfield's Spider-Man leaves the MCU at the end of No Way Home, there are rumors the character may return in the future.

Garfield first played Peter when Sony rebooted its Spider-Man franchsie with 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man. Both The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel performed respectably at the box office. Still, neither movie performed particularly well critically, and they're generally considered two of the weaker modern movies to feature the wall-crawler. There were originally plans for a third Amazing Spider-Man and a spinoff movie centered on the Sinister Six following the release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. However, those never came to fruition, and Holland ended up taking on the role in the MCU after Sony and Marvel Studios struck a deal to share rights to the character.

Directed by Jon Watts from a script by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, No Way Home is in theaters now.
