Spider-Man: No Way Home star Tom Holland is reportedly making an appearance in Sony Pictures Animation’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
Following the success of No Way Home, rumors about Holland’s future as Spider-Man continue to circulate online, including a potential appearance in the highly-anticipated Across the Spider-Verse movie. During The Hot Mic Podcast, industry scooper Jeff Sneider revealed that the upcoming animated sequel may see Miles Morales going to a live-action Marvel universe, where Holland’s version of Spider-Man resides. "I'd heard that part of the delay of [Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse] was about getting Tom Holland in that movie, and that one of the dimensions that Miles could end up going to is a live-action dimension with Tom Holland's [Spider-Man]."
Should Holland’s casting rumor in Across the Spider-Verse be confirmed, this would be a dream come true for Spider-Man fans who have been wanting to see Holland’s Peter Parker interact with Shameik Moore’s Miles Morales. The fan-favorite characters’ potential meeting has already been imagined in an incredible fan-made trailer. Holland’s return as the friendly-neighborhood superhero has not yet been officially announced by Sony Pictures. However, recent reports suggest that the actor has reportedly closed a new deal for Sony and Marvel Studios’ next Spider-Man trilogy.
What to Expect in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is co-directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson from a screenplay written by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and David Callaham. The sequel will once again feature the voices of returning cast members Moore as Miles Morales, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy, Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker, and Oscar Isaac as Miguel O’Hara/ Spider-Man 2099, who first appeared during the post-credits scene of Into the Spider-Verse.
Just like in the 2018 film, Miles will be encountering a number of new Spider-People from different universes including Issa Rae’s Jessica Drew/ Spider-Woman and Daniel Kaluuya’s Hobie Brown/ Spider-Punk. According to the sequel’s synopsis, Miles will be going up against other Spiders due to their disagreement on how to handle a new villain who’s threatening the Multiverse.
In a previous interview, writer-producing duo Lord and Miller opened up about the groundbreaking sequel, teasing an even wilder storyline than the first film. "The things that we're doing in this new Spider-Verse movie are breaking the pipelines all over again," Miller said. "But everyone's excited about it and not just terrified." Ere Santos, who is the senior character animator of Across the Spider-Verse, also shared that the sequel won’t be a kid’s movie due to its more serious plot.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is scheduled to hit theaters on June 3, 2023.
