Relativity Media has been trying to get a new Crow movie to take flight for several years now. Based on the comic book by James O’Barr, The Crow found Eric Draven beaten and murdered by a gang of thugs who also attacked his fiancee only to return thanks to a mystical crow that gives him supernatural abilities to exact revenge.
A variety of actors, from Mark Wahlberg and Bradley Cooper to James McAvoy, have been attached to the remake of the 1994 film, but The Wrap reports that Tom Hiddleston is next on the list. According to the site, Hiddleston had dinner with the producers and also sent a homemade make-up screen test in advance of an official one.
While McAvoy’s participation in the new Crow film was dismissed by the actor as “rumor mill stuff,” Cooper actually got pretty far along in the process before bailing out due to time constraints, soon to be followed by 28 Weeks Later helmer Juan Carlos Fresnadillo. In January, the project got received a boost when it was announced F. Javier Gutierrez (Before the Fall) will direct and Jesse Wigutow (the upcoming Tron sequel) will write. However, The Wrap lists Warrior‘s Cliff Dorfman as the current writer.
Although it sounds as if Hiddleston’s involvement is in the very early stages, he’s shown the kind of dramatic darkness and action chops to pull off the role originally made famous by Brandon Lee.
