While no other details about the series were revealed, this is the first official confirmation of Hiddleston's role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe series, which was publicly discussed by Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger and teased by Hiddleston late last year.

In his comments, Feige confirmed that Marvel Studios-produced shows like Loki, Falcon and Winter Solider and WandaVision would feature major storylines with real ramifications for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While it's unclear when Loki will take place in the MCU timeline, it's worth noting that Hiddleston's character was killed in Avengers: Infinity War.

Previously, it had been reported that Loki's Disney+ series might feature a younger version of the Asgardian, Kid Loki, with Hiddleston appearing in a smaller role. Since Hiddleston is being advertised as having a starring role, it seems like that might not the the case for the series after all.

Earlier this year, new reports surfaced that suggested that the series could follow an adult Loki as he influences various events throughout human history, which still seems possible for the show.

While Falcon and Winter Soldier will likely premiere in 2020, a release window has not yet been announced for Loki.
