"The Dark Knight Rises" star Tom Hardy revealed that he would love to play the Punisher if he were to sign onto another comic book movie.

"I want the Punisher," he told Collider. "I want the Punisher, or Splinter Cell, I want something...I don't know what I want."

"I'm not big enough to be The Punisher, I'm 5'9"," he laughed, but added, "Frank Castle, I would love it."

Hardy is no stranger to the world of comic book films. He played Batman's nemesis Bane in "The Dark Knight Rises" (2012), and he was originally attached to star as Rick Flagg in "Suicide Squad" but had to back out due to to a scheduling conflict with Alejandro G. Inarritu's "The Revenant," which he was shooting in Alaska at the time. "I was really bummed out," Hardy said of the film. "I wanted to work on that and I know the script is really fucking alley."

Marvel reacquired the rights to the Punisher character in 2010, following Lionsgate's "The Punisher" (2004) and "Punisher: War Zone" (2008). Though Marvel currently holds the property, they have yet to introduce the character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe alongside Captain America, Thor and Daredevil, among others.

Hardy's upcoming film, "Mad Max: Fury Road," opens May 15.
