Tom Hardy is leaving Gotham City behind for a new criminal career with the Japanese Yakuza.

The Dark Knight Rises actor has booked a new project, according to Deadline, called The Outsider. Hardy will team up with Japanese director Takashi Miike for his English-language debut, described as "an epic story set in post-World War II Japan." Hardy plays a former American soldier who becomes part of the Yakuza, the infamous Japanese crime syndicate, following his experience in the war.

It's Miike's first Hollywood film after directing countless Japanese movies, including the revered Ichi the Killer, 13 Assassins and Audition. Joining him on the project are producers John and Art Linson, executive producers on Sons of Anarchy with film credits that include Fight Club.
