Tom Hanks, Halle Berry Take Center Stage in Cloud Atlas Trailer

It's safe to say that Cloud Atlas, from directors Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run, The International), Andy and Lana Wachowski (The Matrix), is an ambitious undertaking. Based on the 2004 novel of the same name by David Mitchell, the film tells six nested stories that span the centuries, from the 1850s South Pacific to a far-flung post-apocalyptic future, while dealing with heady matters like reincarnation and the soul. It's pretty complex stuff, but this latest trailer makes it a little easier to understand.

To help bring the movie to life, the Wachowskis and Tykwer enlisted a high-caliber cast that includes Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugh Grant, Hugo Weaving, Susan Sarandon and Keith David. The trailer above shows off a few of their performances, but mostly focuses on Hanks, Berry and their other bodies in the past and future.
