Welsh actor Tom Ellis has been cast in the lead role of Fox's "Lucifer" pilot, according to multiple outlets including Deadline. This is the first reported casting for the series, which received a pilot order earlier this month.

Ellis recently starred as a morally dubious phyiscian on the USA series "Rush," and was the first actor to play Robin Hood on "Once Upon a Time." He's had multiple role on British TV series, including "EastEnders," "The Catherine Tate Show" and as Tom Milligan on "Doctor Who."

The Lucifer role is described as, "bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, [Luicfer] resigns his throne and abandons his kingdom for the gorgeous, shimmering insanity of Los Angeles, where he gets his kicks helping the LAPD punish criminals."

Based on the DC/Vertigo series by Mike Carey and Peter Gross, the "Lucifer" pilot will be written by "Californication" creator Tom Kapinos and directed by Len Wiseman, of "Underworld" and "Sleepy Hollow" fame.
