Universal Pictures has shuffled the release of its reboot of "The Mummy" to June 9, 2017.

The first film in the studio's new interconnected monsters universe, the contemporary take on the classic franchise will star Tom Cruise, with Sofia Boutella ("Kingsman: The Secret Service") in the title role.

Directed by Alex Kurtzman from a script by Jon Spaihts, "The Mummy" was originally targeted for release on March 24, 2017.

Kurtzman and Chris Morgan were hired by Universal to oversee the revitalization of its classic monsters library, with new takes on "The Wolf Man," "Van Helsing" and "The Bride of Frankenstein" also in the works.
